AhlulBayt News Agency: The Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the US sanctions imposed on International Criminal Court (ICC) judges, following the tribunal’s issuance of an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over war crimes and crimes against humanity against Palestinians.
Commenting on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei described the US move as a “new low,” accusing Washington of being addicted to using sanctions and intimidation to achieve its foreign policy goals.
Baghaei stated that the US sanctions reflect its abuse of power and obstruction of international justice.
The Trump administration imposed the measures on Friday, responding to the ICC’s arrest warrant for Netanyahu issued last year, amid Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza, which began in October 2023.
The war, triggered by a historic anti-Israeli operation by Gaza’s resistance groups, has resulted in at least 54,772 Palestinian deaths, mostly women and children.
The US sanctions also target ICC judges investigating war crimes committed by American troops in Afghanistan during the US invasion of the country.
Washington dismissed the ICC probes as “illegitimate and baseless.”
Baghaei, however, argued that the sanctions aim to ensure maximum impunity for Israel’s crimes in occupied Palestine.
He cited the US vetoing a UN Security Council resolution that sought to mandate a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, as further evidence of Washington’s complicity in Israeli war crimes.
Baghaei criticized the US as the most persistent accomplice in Israel’s genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.
Concluding his statement, Baghaei urged the international community to take action, warning that US policies undermine international law and threaten fundamental human rights.
